The New Relationship Fund (NRF) helps Aboriginal communities and organizations across Ontario participate in meaningful consultations with government and the private sector.
Developed with input from First Nation and Métis partners, the fund has helped First Nation organizations and communities and Métis organizations across Ontario hire staff with the technical skills and expertise to fulfill internal consultation responsibilities at the community level.
Since December 2008, 111 First Nations communities, 27 Métis organizations and several off-reserve organizations received funding under the NRF program. There were a total of 250 projects.
Establishing a fund to provide resources and skills to Aboriginal communities and organizations was a key recommendation of The Report of the Ipperwash Inquiry released May 2007.
