New Relationship Fund

The New Relationship Fund provides resources to assist Aboriginal communities and organizations across Ontario to create jobs and provide skills training, develop business partnerships and expand economic opportunities through their communities.

Establishing this fund was a key recommendation of The Report of the Ipperwash Inquiry. The fund was developed with input from First Nation and Métis partners.

Since 2008, the fund has created over 480 jobs and funded administrative and technical training to over 4300 Aboriginal people.

Core Consultation Capacity

Land

This program assists First Nations and Métis communities to build fundamental consultation and engagement capacity so that they can better engage with governments and the private sector on lands and resources issues.

104 projects in 158 Aboriginal communities received core capacity funding in 2011-12 through the New Relationship Fund.

Applications for 2012-13

The application period is now closed for 2012-13 Core Consultation Capacity funding. Applications received are currently under review by the ministry.

This program funds projects that assist Aboriginal communities to build their capacity over and above core consultation capacity. The program assists Aboriginal organizations to participate in meaningful consultations with government and the private sector. The program includes projects that will also assist Aboriginal communities and organizations expand their economic development opportunities.

51 projects in 30 Aboriginal communities and 6 Aboriginal organizations received enhanced capacity building funding in 2011-12 through the New Relationship Fund.

Applications for 2012-13

The application period is now closed for 2012-13 Enhanced Capacity Building funding. Applications received are currently under review by the ministry.
