TORONTO – The Ernie Eves government is providing $20,000 to the Aboriginal Economic Renewal Initiative (AERI) to help mount a conference, Marketing to the World: Aboriginal Access to International Trade, November 20-21, 2002, Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Native Affairs David Young announced today.
"Ontario is pleased to assist the Aboriginal Economic Renewal Initiative in promoting Aboriginal economic development to as broad an audience as possible," said Young. "Business activities are essential for the economic health and self-reliance of communities. Access to as wide a market as possible is an important factor in business success."
Funding is provided through Ontario's Working Partnerships program, part of a co-ordinated framework of more than 35 government programs and services developed under the Building Aboriginal Economies strategy. The strategy was announced by the Ontario government in 1998, to strengthen Aboriginal economic self-reliance.
Plenary topics will include: Leveraging Free Trade; Understanding the European Market; Aboriginal and Pan-Aboriginal Business Opportunities through CIDA; Global Opportunities for the Aboriginal Tourism Sector; Opportunities in the Agri-food Sector. There will also be workshops on trade resources.
