new Business Centre Promotes First Nation Prosperity

McGuinty Government Supports First Nation Business Opportunities

NEWS
Ontario is helping the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte make the most of new and existing business opportunities.

Located close to the City of Belleville, the Tyendinaga Mohawk Business Centre will help promote new business development and potential business partnerships between the First Nation and surrounding communities of Prince Edward County and Lennox and Addington.  Until the centre was built, the community's over 100 independent businesses were having a tough time finding new space for development.  New tenants include the Office of Sustainable Development.

The construction of the centre was supported by a $500,000 grant from the Aboriginal Community Capital Grants Program.

QUOTES
"This business centre really shows how well the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, the Ontario government and the business sector can work together to attract economic activity in the area," said Aboriginal Affairs Minister Brad Duguid.  "In doing this, we are strengthening both the local communities and the Province as a whole."

"We appreciate the support of the Ontario government which, along with Casino Rama funds, made this business centre a reality," said Chief R. Donald Maracle.  "This will stimulate economic opportunities and growth in our community."
