Looking at Urban Aboriginal Issues

McGuinty Government Funds Research On Issues Facing Toronto's Aboriginal Community

NEWS
Ontario is helping the Toronto Aboriginal Social Services Association (TASSA) research the diverse issues and needs of Toronto's Aboriginal community.

The research will help identify solutions that will improve the quality of life of Aboriginal people living in Toronto. Recent work by the Urban Aboriginal Task Force (UATF) in Ontario identified Toronto as an important site for further research which would complement the task force's 2007 study.

The final report will provide recommendations on policies, programs and services that could help address the needs of urban Aboriginal people in Toronto. The final report is expected to be released at the end of August of next year.

QUOTES
"This funding will support important research into issues affecting the quality of life of Toronto's Aboriginal community. The research is a community-driven, community-based study that will make a positive difference," said Brad Duguid, Ontario Minister of Aboriginal Affairs. "I am encouraged by this initiative and believe it will enhance the strong relationship we continue to build with the Aboriginal community in Toronto."
