Ontario Appoints New Principal Representative To Six Nations Haldimand Tract Negotiations

Province Committed To Continuing Negotiations

The Ontario government has appointed a new Principal Representative to the negotiations between the Haudenosaunee/Six Nations and Canada. Mr. Tom Molloy takes over from Murray Coolican who represented the province over the past 14 months. Mr. Coolican has now retired. Mr. Molloy will begin his position in September.

Mr. Coolican is credited for representing the province during challenging periods of the negotiations and for his efforts to find creative and innovative solutions.

Mr. Molloy has played a leading role in many landmark Aboriginal claims settlements in Canada, including the negotiations that led to the creation of the Territory of Nunavut, and the Nisga'a Final Agreement in British Columbia.

• Mr. Molloy was Canada's chief negotiator in the Nisga'a Final Agreement, the first modern day treaty in the history of British Columbia.
• He was Canada's representative in the negotiations that led to the creation of the Territory of Nunavut in 1999.
• Mr. Molloy helped establish treaty processes with the Mikmaq in the provinces of Nova Scotia and Quebec.
