Message from the Negotiators on the Algonquins of Ontario Land Claim

March 2013

The negotiation teams for the Algonquins of Ontario, Canada and Ontario would like to thank all those who participated in the recent public information sessions organized throughout Eastern Ontario March 6 – 16, 2013.

Releasing a Preliminary Draft Agreement-in-Principle for public review is unprecedented. We appreciate the interest of everyone who attended and the input we have received to date. Your comments will be carefully considered as we continue our work towards a draft Agreement-in-Principle.

This is an ongoing process which will include many further opportunities to provide constructive input. We look forward to working together in the spirit of reconciliation to balance the many interests of the Algonquins and their neighbours in the land claim area.

Preliminary Draft Agreement-in-Principle

A preliminary draft Agreement-in-Principle is now available for public review. This is not a final product. It sets out the main elements of a potential settlement which is still a number of years away.

Anyone with legal interests who may be affected by this claim’s proposed land selections is being notified and offered an opportunity to meet with representatives of Ontario.
