Jeff Leal

Jeff Leal was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. He has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of the Environment.

Leal began his career in politics at the municipal level. He was elected to Peterborough city council in 1986 and served in numerous capacities, including second deputy mayor, chair of the County/City of Peterborough Joint Social Services Committee, vice-chair of the County/City Waste Management Steering Committee, chairperson of the City of Peterborough Library Board and chairperson of the City of Peterborough’s Social Services Committee.

Leal was born in Peterborough in 1954 and has lived there almost his entire life. He was employed at Coyle Corrugated Containers in Peterborough as the Health and Safety representative. He attended St. John the Baptist Elementary School and graduated from Kenner Collegiate. In 1978, he received an Honours BA in economics and political science from Trent University. Later, he attended the University of Windsor and earned an Honours BBA in 1981.

Jeff and Karan, a local school teacher, were married in 1994. They have two children, Braden and Shanae.
